How we make money
Here is exactly where our money comes from, in plain words.
The short version
RateCheckrr collects information and presents it in one place, in plain language. We do not give advice and we do not recommend any product or provider. We are paid in three ways, and only these three:
- Referrals. Want a partner to review your statement? We will put you in touch. When you contact one of our payment-processing partners this way, they may pay us, whether or not you sign up with them.
- Links. If a page links to a company and we may be paid when someone signs up through that link (an affiliate or referral link), the page says so next to the link.
- Ads on some explainer pages.
You are never charged anything by us.
What we are not
- We are not a payment processor. We cannot process a card.
- We are not a bank or a lender.
- We are not financial advisers, and nothing here is financial advice.
- To see how we handle your details, read our privacy policy.
How the referral works, step by step
- You fill in the free statement review form.
- We log your details and email them to our payment-processing partners.
- A partner contacts you, reviews your statement, and tells you what they find.
- They may pay us for the introduction, or if you choose to sign up with them.
- Whether you sign up, stay where you are or do something else is your decision.
What that does and does not change
It would be silly to pretend money has no influence at all, so here is where the line is.
What it does not change:
- We do not rank, pick or recommend providers. Comparisons are side by side, with sources.
- We do not write worse pages about companies who do not pay us.
- We do not invent numbers. Every rate or rule has a source, or it is flagged as needing one.
- We do not tell you whether to stay or switch. Partners and offers are options you can choose to contact, or not.
What it honestly does change:
- Every page ends by pointing you at the free review, because that is the thing that pays for the site. We think it is genuinely useful. We would still put the link there if we thought it was only mildly useful.
- We write more about merchant services than about topics nobody pays for. That is a choice about what we cover, not a slant in what we say.
Ads
Some explainer pages may carry ads. Ads never appear on the statement review form, the tools, provider pages, comparison pages or the legal pages. Ads only load if you have agreed to advertising cookies. You can change that with the "Change cookie settings" button on the Privacy Policy page.
What we would do differently if we were being dishonest
A useful test. If we wanted to maximise revenue at your expense we would publish rankings that happened to favour whoever pays most, invent "average rates" that made your current deal look terrible, and hide this page. We have tried to do the opposite of each of those. If you think we have slipped, tell us: hi@ratecheckrr.com.
Questions
If you want to know whether a specific page is sponsored, the answer is no. RateCheckrr does not sell sponsored content. If that ever changes, it will be labelled at the top of the page, not hidden in a footnote.
