Providers
How each company prices, bills, and cancels.
This section describes how individual card processors price, bill and cancel, using each company’s own pricing pages, fee disclosures and terms. It is for businesses that already use one of these providers, or that are reading a quote from one.
Today it covers four providers that publish their Canadian pricing: Helcim, Square, Stripe and TD Merchant Solutions. Each page sets out what the provider publishes about its pricing, fees, hardware, payouts and cancelling, and where it says so. Every fact has a source and the date it was checked, and the pages are re-checked every three months because prices change. The pages do not rank the providers or pick one.
For the ideas behind the numbers, Processor Markup explains the part each provider sets, and Payment Processor vs Merchant Account explains the two ways providers sign businesses up. Tables that set two providers side by side are in the Compare section.
